There is no doubt that times have been tough over the last few years, especially for manufacturers in our industry. Back in September, Rotolight Group Ltd. went into administration and this has resulted in a change of leadership and the formation of a new company called Rotolight Industries.
Rotolight Industries immediately had a big sale with a lot of the current Rotolight fixtures slashed by 70%. This is undoubtedly to clear stock and raise capital.
I am a little surprised that Rotolight went under especially after they managed to patent FX in LED lights and they got numerous companies including ARRI to pay them licensing fees. They were also involved in a court case against Aputure claiming that they were infringing on their patent. I am not sure what has subsequently happened to that case with Rotolight going into administration.
Here is what Rod Gammons posted on social media:
As many will know this has been an incredibly tough year for the industry and despite our very best efforts, sadly Rotolight Group Ltd entered administration in September’24. Whilst clearly this is not the outcome anyone wanted, I remain incredibly proud of the impact Rotolight had as an SME on the industry over a 14 year period and am incredibly grateful to all of our fantastic staff, loyal end users, dealers/ distributors, suppliers, masters of light, and anyone who else who played a role on this journey with us over the years. I am delighted with the recent news that the Rotolight brand will continue to be available for its user base in a new company run by Daniel Waite, but after 14 years, the time is right for me to personally explore other opportunities. I wish the new team every success, but I will be announcing my own future plans shortly. Until then, thank you for your understanding and support. Best, Rod
