Back in 2023, Laowa launched its Ranger Compact Cine Zoom Series which consisted of the 28-75mm and 75-180mm T2.9 lenses. Now, the third lens in the series, the 16-30mm T2.9 is now available.
The new 16-30mm T2.9 weighs 800g, and this makes it very small and lightweight for a full frame cine zoom with this range and constant T-stop.

I previously reviewed the Laowa Ranger S35 11-18, 17-50 & 50-130mm Zooms on the site, which the full frame versions are based on.
The lens features 11 aperture blades in an 18-element and 22-group construction. It has an aperture range of T2.9 to T22 and an 80mm front outside diameter.
Markings on the lens are available in both feet and meters. The lens has a 107° field of view at the wide end and a 71.6° field of view at the telephoto end with a 43.2mm image circle. An included EF bayonet adapts the native PL mount for compatibility with a broader range of cameras, while a 77mm front filter thread allows you to attach compatible lens filters. Additional back focus adjustment can be achieved with the provided shim set.
The Ranger series is claimed to have low-focus breathing and low distortion and with their parfocal ability, they are an inexpensive set for documentaries, events, and a wide array of other applications.
The Ranger series is available in Standard (black lens body) and Lite versions (space-grey lens body). The Lite version features a magnesium alloy design which makes the lens even lighter and more durable.
