The SHORT film ‘O2,’ was shot on an iPhone with PL Anamorphic Lenses This is the first time that an entire short film has been shot entirely on an iPhone using Atlas Mercury Anamorphic Lenses. This was made possible by Beastgrip’s new type of DOF Adapter Фoton [ foh-ton ].
The film was an experiment designed to push the boundaries of what a iPhone camera is capable of. In collaboration with Evotime Films, Old Fast Glass and Atlas Lens Co., Beastgrip tested various lenses and after numerous trials, they landed on the Atlas Mercury Anamorphic Series, which delivered visuals and flares they never imagined were possible on a phone.
And that’s not all. With “O2,” it was taken a step further by incorporating AI-generated scenes. Director Stanislav Kapralov and DoP Eugene Usanov have spent nearly a year exploring AI tools to bring an extra level of creativity and realism to video. They believe AI is about to revolutionize filmmaking, creating new opportunities to produce high-quality content on smaller budgets.
So what’s “O2” about?
Set in a post-apocalyptic world where air has become lethal due to chemical and nuclear wars, one breath turns you into a zombie. Survivors must live in oxygen masks, constantly carrying O2 tanks to stay alive. The film’s central message is a reflection on how we live for the future, forgetting to embrace the present. We’re often so busy chasing money, careers, and power that we overlook those who give us what truly matters—love. Only when faced with death do we realize that we’ve had everything we needed for happiness all along.
