Tiffen’s new Steadicam Axis, the first professional body-worn stabilizer with integral three-axis Volt stabilization is now shipping. This looks to be a great solution for small to mid-sized digital cinema cameras such as the Sony FX6, Canon C400, RED KOMODO, etc.
The Tiffen Steadicam Axis is a new 3-Axis electronically assisted camera stabilizer incorporating Steadicam’s Volt technology, augmented with a third pan motor for even more precise camera control.

3-axis assisted stabilization allows the operator to directly control the framing of the shot without feeling disconnected from the camera like in other fly-by-wire systems. Tiffen claims that there is a shallow learning curve for achieving high-quality camera movement, with faster setup times and greater range of movement over current electronic gimbal systems.
The Steadicam Volt System is a tool that provides Steadicam operators with horizontal stabilization, giving them the ability to easily transition between fully manual and auto assist modes. A stage-mounted control box powers the electronically assisted 3-axis Volt gimbal that facilitates greater and more subtle control of framing while still providing the Operator with tactile, hands-on control of the sled. Three knobs at the top adjust ROLL, TILT, and for the first time, PAN. Alongside them is a fourth knob to set just the right DAMPENING to finesse the move.
The Steadicam Axis has a payload capacity of up to 20 lbs / 9kg when paired with a Steadicam A-30 Arm & Vest.
