Today, RED dropped the price of the Komodo and Komodo X substantially. This is an aggressive move by RED and one that is likely to garner more interest in their Komodo cameras.

There is no other pricing update currently expected for RED’s line of cinema cameras, including the V-RAPTOR XL and V-RAPTOR.

The RED Komodo-X is an excellent deal with the $3,000 USD price drop. I know people who have them already or are interested in selling them will groan heavily at this new pricing, but it always happens, so there is nothing new here.

All of the above cameras offer a wide array of different features and capabilities.
What does this mean? It could mean there is too much inventory, and RED/Nikon wants to move it out to possibly make room for something new. I feel these cameras are priced so well to begin with, as the RED cameras, in general, are very expensive since you are basically purchasing a camera brain and will need some accessories to make it usable. Here is where things start adding up, but RED has also included the drop in price with Camera Starter Packs as well.

Nevertheless, if you are looking to buy a new Komodo or Komodo X you can save some cash and probably get an even better deal on a used one.
