Atomos has announced its new Shinobi II 5.2” HDMI HDR Monitor that gains enhanced hardware functionality, camera control, and a slightly different form factor than its predecessor.
The biggest update to the Shinobi II is the introduction of a camera control interface. A USB-C port on the back of the monitor provides both control and power, as well as on-device calibration with a separately available Calibrite probe. An additional LANC provides even more control compatibility and the ability to calibrate using the Atomos Calibrator on Windows or macOS devices.
The OS uses on-screen sliders where you can adjust white balance, aperture, shutter speed, shutter angle, and ISO. A red edge appears on the display when the camera is recording internally.
Currently, the camera controls are compatible with most Canon, Panasonic, and Sony cameras as well as the Z CAM E2 series, with a future update planned for Fujifilm, Nikon, OM systems, and Sigma.

The Shinobi II supports both UHD 4K and DCI 4K video inputs and it has a 1920 x 1080 touchscreen display with 1500 cd/m² of maximum brightness. HDR HLG and HDR PQ monitoring modes can preview what your Log output would look like in HDR and you can upload up to eight custom LUTs.
The 5.2″ / 13.2 cm 8-Bit+FRC (1.07 Billion Colors) screen has 423 ppi and it covers 100% of Rec.709.
The Shinobi II has a slightly slimmer profile than its predecessor. It can be powered via an L-series battery, an optional battery eliminator, or via USB-C. It weighs only 7.4 oz / 210 g and it is made out of Polycarbonate.
The monitor draws 10 W (Typical), 13 W (Maximum).
AtomOS 11 outfits the Shinobi II with the latest monitoring tools for intuitive control. A camera status indicator provides an overview of the connected camera’s recording settings, battery charge, and remaining recording time. You’ll also be able to toggle focus, exposure, and framing tools to create the perfect shot.
Both the HDMI and USB-C ports on the Shinobi II have locking mechanisms. The new cables also support 4K60 footage and are 11.8” long. On one end of the cable is an HDMI connector, while the other is either an HDMI, a Mini-HDMI, or a Micro-HDMI connector.
