Tiffen’s New Magnetic Control System (MCS) uses magnets to allow you to quickly and securely attach Tiffen MCS filters to the front of your lenses, faster than threading filters on and off.
We have seen a few versions of magnetic filter holders, such as the XUME, which was bought by Manfrotto and is now discontinued. I purchased several of them and liked their convenience. Tiffen is better positioned to succeed with magnetic filters as they make excellent filters.
The new Tiffen Magnetic Control System is a little different as it works with a new line of Tiffen MCS filters. Tiffen doesn’t offer an adapter for other manufacturers’ filters or even their own to work with the MCS system. Tiffen chose their popular filter options with the MCS system. For video shooters, the Tiffen Variable Neutral Density (Multicoated) option is available for $149.99 for the 58mm, $179.99 USD for the 72mm, and $229.99 USD for the 82mm. Tiffens 82mm Variable Neutral Density retails for $153.99. The MCS version is $76.00 more.
Each filter comes with front and rear magnetic protector caps and a magnetic adapter of the filter size.
