KipperTie Strata Electro Mounts

KipperTie has unveiled its new Strata Electro mounts. Essentially they are like an external Venice ND system with clear to ND 2.1 in 1 stop increments. It is also electronically controlled (so remote control). Initially it will be available in RF to EF, RF to PL, and E to PL. At a later date they will add L to PL and Z to PL.

The whole concept behind the Strata Electro mounts was to offer users the same quality and performance as previous products, with improvements and enhancements at a lower price. KipperTie also had to walk the tightrope of not making new products that superseded products people already owned.

What is nice about the new Strata Electro is that it is a little bit smaller than previous KipperTie mounts so it will work well on camera like the RED KOMODO and even the Sony FX3. You will need to use accessory brackets to mount some of the Strata Electro versions on certain cameras.

The ND can be physically engaged by using switch or electronically using an actuator. The ND filters move vertically within the mount and the mechanism is completely enclosed. You can remotely control the ND using ARRI, CMotion, and Teradek RC protocols. This lets you change the amount of ND if you can”t physically reach the camera. Currently there is no remote control available through the RED UI. iData can be passed through the PL version variants. The Strata Electro mounts do have a USB-C port on them for supplying additional power or for future firmware updates.

The Strata Electro mounts will cover full frame sensors which is good news. The rear depth of PL lens elements that can be used on the Strata Electro is similar to Revolva. With certain vintage lenses and newer lenses like the NiSi Athena series that have very deep rear elements, you won’t be able to use them with these mounts.

Price & Availability

The RF to PL version will come first, followed by the RF to EF, and then the E to PL. They will all retail for around $2,200 USD each and they should start shipping in the next few months. The additional brackets, etc. will be extra.
