At NAB 2024 in Las Vegas I caught up with Ryan from MID49 to have a look at some of his new camera and powering accessory solutions for the new Sony BURANO
Power Distribution Box DB-8
The Power Distribution Box DB-8 (Sony Burano, V-Mount) attaches directly to the back of the camera body using the V-Mount interface to provide intelligent power distribution with D-Taps, 5V USB-C PD, 3pin Fischers, and 2pin LEMO compatible connectors.
You can hot swap between onboard battery and 4pin XLR DC INPUT without losing camera or accessory power. When both sources are connected, the DC INPUT takes priority down to 12.5V at which point, the DB-8 will switch to an onboard battery.
With the SMART FUSE design, camera power is monitored and the remaining power budget is allocated to accessories. For example, the Burano uses approximately 2.8A at 14V so when using a 10A capable battery, the remaining 6.2A is allocated for accessory use. If an accessory configuration exceeds the 6.2A limit, accessory power is cut off, leaving the camera powered. The “SMART FUSE” LED will illuminate showing the error and once the configuration has been adjusted to lower than 6.2A, the RESET button can be pressed and power will be re-enabled to accessory outputs.
In the event of a complete short circuit, the system will immediately shut down and can only be turned back on once the short circuit has been removed.
The DB-8 is also compatible with Sony Venice and Venice 2 and start / stop capability can be added using the optional adapter cable.

Sony BURANO accessories
The MID49 range of Sony BURANO accessories includes an EVF Pivot Adapter that removes the problem of having to use tools to reposition the BURANO’s LCD screen when you want to use the loupe.
There is a good range of well thought out accessories, so let’s jump right in and look at them in more detail.
EVF Pivot Adapter
The Sony Burano EVF Pivot Adapter allows you to switch from the LCD panel position to the viewfinder configuration without tools. You simply just grab and twist to do this.
This is a fantastic design and you have to wonder why Sony didn’t come up with something similar when they were designing the camera.
The MID49 Sony BURANO EVF Pivot Adapter retails for $149 USD. Limited inventory is available now for early camera recipients. Regular shipping begins early February.
Top Plate (Sony Burano)
The Top Plate (Sony Burano) attaches to the top of the camera and provides 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 threaded holes with ARRI accessory pins, M4x20mm ARRI standard threaded holes, 1/4-20 holes for the Burano’s included handle and the optional FX9 control handle. When using the FX9 handle, an upcoming connector bridge will be available from MID49 and attach to the rear opening on the top plate.
The center ARCA dovetail clamp allows for attachment of the ARCA Top Handle, ARCA Top Plate, and Gimbal Adapter Plates for quick change between handheld and studio modes.
The side 3/8-16 ARRI accessory mounts can accept Cage NATO Side Arm (ARRI 3/8-16) for cage building.
Burano tape hook and cable guide can be removed and installed on the top plate.

Base Kit for Sony Burano
The Base Kit for Sony Burano consists of the following items:
Attaches to the top of the camera and provides 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 threaded holes with ARRI accessory pins, M4x20mm ARRI standard threaded holes, and center ARCA clamp interface for holding ARCA Top Handle and Gimbal Mounting Plates.
ARCA Top Handle
Sliding camera handle that has 1/4-20, 3/8-16 with ARRI locating pins, and M4x20mm threaded holes plus two hot shoe mounts.
Single 15mm Rod Clamp (M4 x 20mm)
Attaches to the ARCA Top Handle and holds Sony’s included Burano EVF system. Also great for attaching lens motors in a compact configuration.
Baseline 15mm LW (Sony Burano Baseplate)
Quick-release 15mm LW baseplate with ARCA Swiss camera dovetail interface on top and ARRI standard dovetail interface on the bottom.
Add on the optional Sony Burano EVF Pivot Adaptor which allows the Burano LCD panel to switch from monitor configuration to viewfinder configuration without tools. Just grab and twist.

Mid Kit for Sony Burano
The Mid Kit for Sony Burano is a complete, on stop solution for the camera. It consists of the following parts:
The Top Plate (Sony Burano) attaches to the top of the camera and provides 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 threaded holes with ARRI accessory pins, M4x20mm ARRI standard threaded holes, and center ARCA clamp interface for holding ARCA Top Handle and Gimbal Mounting Plates.
The ARCA Top Handle is a sliding camera handle that has 1/4-20, 3/8-16 with ARRI locating pins, and M4x20mm threaded holes plus two hot shoe mounts.
The Single 15mm Rod Clamp (M4 x 20mm) attaches to the ARCA Top Handle and holds Sony’s included Burano EVF system. Also great for attaching lens motors in a compact configuration.

The 2x Cage NATO Side Arm (ARRI 3/8-16) attaches to the sides of the Top Plate and provides an ARRI Rosette adjustable NATO accessory rail with safety pins on each end.
The 15mm Rod (7″, Aluminum) can replace Sony’s included Burano sideways 15mm rod to allow further positioning of the EVF Mount and adds additional space for right side accessories.
The Baseline 15mm LW (Sony Burano Baseplate) is a quick-release 15mm LW baseplate with ARCA Swiss camera dovetail interface on top and ARRI standard dovetail interface on the bottom. 2x 15mm 9inch stainless steel rods are included in the Mid kit.
You can also add on the optional Microphone Shock Mount (Sideways 15mm Rod) which clamps to the included 15mm Rod (7″, Aluminum) and provides exceptional isolation from movement, handling noise, and other vibrations.

MID49 EVF Extension Cables
The MID49 EVF Extension Cables are an extension for Sony’s 40 pin monitors system found on recent cameras including BURANO, FX9, FX6, FS7, FS7mkII, FS5, FS5mkII.
The Mid49 EVF Extension Cables are available in 12 in (30 cm), 36 in (91 cm), 120 in (305 cm), and 300 in (762 cm) versions.
