Panasonic has announced the Lumix S 28-200mm f/4-7.1 MACRO O.I.S lens. The Leica L-mount full frame lens has been designed to be a good all-in-one travel lens that is compact and lightweight.
It’s the first wide-to-tele zoom lens to be added to the S-series lineup and features a big focal length range that allows you to effectively capture portraits and landscapes without having to rely on multiple lenses.
Being able to go from 28-200mm is very handy and it allows you to capture a variety of shots without having to worry about changing lenses.

The lens features 5-Axis Dual I.S. 2 Image Stabilization that is claimed to provide up to 6.5 stops of correction. The optical construction of the lens consists of 17 Elements in 13 Groups, with one aspherical lens element and four ED elements. There is also a 9-bladed aperture. The front lens element has a fluorine coating that helps prevent oil- and water-based substances from sticking to it.
The minimum focusing distance is 5.5″ / 14 cm.
The Lumix S 28-200mm f/4-7.1 MACRO O.I.S weighs 14.6 oz / 413 g and it has physical dimensions of 3 x 3.7″ / 77.3 x 93.4 mm. The front filter diameter is 67mm.
There are two switches on the lens barrel that allow you to make quick adjustments while you shoot. One switch is for swapping between AF and MF, while the other is to disable the lens’s image stabilization.
For video shooters, the lens is claimed effectively suppresses focus breathing, in which the angle of view changes caused by movements in the focus position. The focus ring can be switched between linear and non-linear settings. Improved MF and control methods enable precise operation even in macro photography that requires minute focusing.
