FUJIFILM X100VI Camera with 40MP Sensor & IBIS

FUJIFILM has announced its X100VI Camera with a 40MP Sensor and IBIS. The X100VI is the sixth generation of this camera, and it blends retro aesthetics and high-performance imaging.

The new model features the same 40MP X-Trans CMOS sensor that is found in the X-H2, along with 6.2K video recording, improved AF, a new Film Simulation mode, and, for the first time in an X100 body, in-body image stabilization.

Key features

  • 40.2MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS 5 HR Sensor
  • X-Processor 5 Image Processor
  • Fujinon 23mm f/2 Lens
  • 35mm Full-Frame Equivalent
  • 6-Stop In-Body Image Stabilization
  • 425-Point Intelligent Hybrid AF System
  • Hybrid 0.66x OVF with 3.69m-Dot OLED EVF
  • 3.0″ 1.62m-Dot Tilting Touchscreen
  • Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Connectivity
  • 20 Film Simulation Modes with REALA ACE

It has been quite a long wait for the, X100VI, its predecessor, the X100V, was announced four years ago. The X100VI inherited a lot of the technology from the X-Series mirrorless cameras.

The APS-C-format 40.2MP sensor and X-Processor 5 allow for 10-bit 6.2K 30p, 4K 60p, or FHD 240p video recording.

A benefit of the extra resolution the 40MP sensor provides is that you can utilize new 1.4x and 2x digital teleconverter modes, which give you the effective equivalent focal lengths of 49mm and 70mm, respectively. Depending on the shooting mode, digital teleconversion may be canceled or cannot be selected. You can also choose from two F-Log recording options.

Above you can see all of the resolutions, frame rates, codecs, etc. that are available. There are recording limits of up to 45min when shooting in 4K, and up to 60 minutes when shooting in HD.

There is also a newly updated AF algorithm, which uses AI for claimed faster autofocus and improved subject detection and tracking performance in a wide array of lighting conditions.

The X100VI also includes a new Film Simulation mode called REALA ACE. This joins 19 other included film simulation modes that you can choose from.

Film Simulation modes allow you to reproduce the look and feel of several of FUJIFILM’s film types. The X100VI boasts FUJIFILM’s latest recipe-REALA ACE-and also includes 19 other modes, including Provia, Velvia, Astia, Classic Chrome, PRO Neg.Std, PRO Neg. Hi, Classic Neg., Nostalgic Neg., Eterna Cinema, Eterna Bleach Bypass, Acros, Acros + Ye Filter, Acros + R Filter, Acros + G Filter, Black & White, Black & White + Ye Filter, Black & White + R Filter, Black & White + G Filter, and Sepia.

In addition to simulating specific film types, a Grain Effect mode is also available to replicate the look of old film photos with an organic textured appearance, which is especially noticeable when printing. Color Chrome and Color Chrome Blue effects are also available to deepen color, tonal response, and gradation with higher saturation colors.

The X100VI features the same exact same built-in 23mm f/2 lens as its predecessor. A built-in 4-stop ND filter can also be used for more control over your exposures and to enable working with shallow depth of field.

One of the major upgrades the X100VI is the inclusion of in-body image stabilization, which can compensate for up to 6 stops of camera shake.

The X100VI has the same dimensions as the previous generation version (5 x 3 x 2.1″) and only weighs only 1.5 oz more. It keeps the same NP-W126S battery, too, and manages very similar battery life, compared to its predecessor.

By attaching the adapter ring “AR-X100” and the protection filter “PRF-49”, it exhibits dust- and drip-proof capabilities. You can continue shooting with confidence even in scenes with splashing water or sand, or in unexpectedly rough weather.

Other features that have been carried over from the X100V include the Advanced Hybrid Viewfinder that combines optical and electronic viewing functions together. It also has the same 3.69m-dot EVF and same rear 3.0″ 1.62m-dot touchscreen. The tilting flat LCD monitor lies completely flat with the back of the body, perfectly matching the design of the 100VI. The tilt angle at high angle has been improved from 30° of the previous model X100V to 45°, improving functionality.

For wireless connectivity, the X100VI gains Frame.io Camera to Cloud technology in addition to conventional Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. You can use the camera’s built-in Wi-Fi or Ethernet LAN connection to connect to Frame.io and deliver hi-res raw or JPEG images, send h.264 video proxies, or upload video securely for review.
