Atomos Ninja V/V+ users can update to AtomOS 11, but you won’t get everything for free. There is a free of charge base upgrade which brings the refreshed AtomOS 11 user interface, but no new features.
If you want the new features you will need to purchase a Feature Pack, one for Ninja V and one for Ninja V+. For a limited period only, Atomos will be offering a Ninja V Feature Pack for $79 USD, and a Ninja V+ Feature Pack for $129 USD.
Going forward Atomos will also be phasing out support for AtomOS 10. I am not sure if this means that you be forced into using AtomOS 11, but I would imagine that you will still be able to use AtomOS 10 if you wanted to, but you won’t be able to do any future firmware updates.
Ninja V Feature Pack includes:
- EL ZONE
- ARRI False Color
- SegmentPro
- PlaybackAssist
- RecordAssist
- Wi-Fi 6
Ninja V+ Feature Pack includes:
- EL ZONE
- ARRI False Color
- SegmentPro
- PlaybackAssist
- RecordAssist
- Wi-Fi 6E
- ProRes RAW Dual Record
- SDI Cine
Both Feature Packs also include H.265 and ProRes RAW Codecs, which bought separately would normally cost $198 USD.
While it is nice that Atomos Ninja V/V+ users can update to AtomOS 11, you don’t get any of its benefits unless you are prepared to pay. At least in my opinion, these should have been free updates because there is no change to any hardware.
