Tamron has announced that they are developing a 17-50mm f/4 Di III VXD Lens for Sony E-Mount.
Key features
- Full-Frame | Constant Max Aperture: f/4
- Ultra-Wide to Normal Zoom Lens
- VXD Linear Motor Focus Mechanism
- Internal Zoom & Focus
- Moisture-Resistant Construction
- Fluorine Coating
This 17mm to 50mm zoom is being touted as the world’s first lens for full frame mirrorless cameras with this focal range.
This lens is claimed to be able to achieve excellent optical performance across the entire zoom range, from edge-to-edge. The lens also incorporates VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism which is claimed to provide quiet and agile performance and achieve high-speed and high-precision autofocus. The physical length of the lens does not change while zooming.
It has a MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 19cm / 7.5″ at the wide end and 30cm /11.8″ at the tele end.
The 17-50mm has a moisture-resistant design with a front fluorine coating. It uses 67mm filters, just like most other Tamron mirrorless lenses, and it’s also compatible with the Tamron Lens Utility software for fine-tuning lens performance.
There is no indication of pricing, but it is expected to be available in the northern hemisphere fall.
