At Cine Gear 2023, we caught up with Ryan Schorman to talk about his brand-new camera accessory company Mid49.
You are probably very familiar with Ryan Schorman as he was the co-founder, along with his wife Elizabeth, of Wooden Camera. After a two-year hiatus, they are back with a brand new company. Mid49 basically stands for mid-life crisis.
Mid49 is initially concentrating on accessories for the RED KOMODO-X, but they will also be branching out into making accessories for a wide array of cameras.
The accessories are all well thought out and solve real-world issues.
One of the most interesting accessories he was showing was a very small audio break-out solution that converts twin full-sized XLRs into a 5-pin LEMO.
The other one that caught our attention was a clever mounting solution called the Universal SPEEDBALL that features a 3/8″ with a recessed 1/4-20″ thread. It features a very innovative clutch system so that you can lock the SPEEDBALL down securely without the need for locating pins. Ryan demonstrated this and it is very impressive how well it works.
The new Mid49 accessories should be available in the next few months. The company’s website is still in development so be sure to check back over the next few months for availability and pricing.
