Cartoni at NAB 2023 were showing their new e-Maxima 5.0. This new system with built-in encoders for VR and AR applications as Cartoni states is the ultimate answer for Digital Cinematography with heavy-duty packages.
The CARTONI encoded heads are designed for VR and AR applications and are equipped with 4 Million count/Turn absolute encoders for both Pan and Tilt. There is no need for calibration.
CARTONI encoded heads are designed to be used with the CARTONI Virtual Box. Still, their extreme flexibility allows them to be easily integrated into any system by connecting directly to the encoder via the Lemo connectors on the panel.
Carotni states the head has CE certification and EMC test passed according to EN 55024.
The head will pan and tilt inside a virtual set. For example, as you follow a subject the background will also change as if you are shooting on a nonvirtual one. This makes a seamless and more realistic look without adjusting since the encoders send the information directly to the computer and VR software.
The e-MAXIMA 5.0 is the MAXIMA 5.0 only fitted with encoders. It is possible if you own one and want to have the encoders installed. However, you would have to take the head to Cartoni in Italy, as they do not offer a ship-in service. Maybe a good reason to go to Rome?
Cartoni is known for its patented counterbalance that compensates payloads from zero to 50 kg, with “perfect balance” throughout the 180° tilt range. The patented continuous fluid drag system performs from almost freewheeling to extremely consistent drag for maximum versatility and perfect diagonal shots.
The e-Maxima 5.0 knobs and levers are ergonomically placed to ensure camera operators complete ease of use in any situation, whether in the studio, location or during outside shooting.
Drag and counterbalance settings are monitored on a large digital display.
The large sliding camera plate is compatible with Arri , Sony and O’Connor slides. The head includes a telescopic pan bar and a short front pan bar.
The e-Maxima 5.0 interfaces directly with any Mitchell flat base Tripod and can be easily mounted on top of all existing Pedestals through the Pedestal Adapter (not included).
