KipperTie has announced its new Revolva E-PL mount and Adapta E-PL mounts. These look like good solutions for anyone who wants to run PL glass on a Sony FX3, or FX30.
Revolva E-PL mount
The Revolva E/PL not only allows you to use PL lenses on a Sony E mount camera but it also provides an integrated ND system with what KipperTie claim is cinema-quality optics. Now, what you clearly need to be aware of is that there are two separate ND filter cartridges available that have varying strengths. One has settings for Clear/0.3/0.6/0.9, while the other is 1.2/1.5/1.8/2.1.
Unlike some other solutions on the market such as MEIKE Drop-in Filter PL Adapters and MOFAGE POCO PL to E/RF/L/Z Mount Adapter with Drop-in Filters, the KipperTie doesn’t use VND, it has fixed ND strengths.
The filter cartridges that go inside the mount are loaded with a four-position rotating filter. The Revolva E-PL is compatible with any quick-change Revolva cartridge.
Like any adapter that takes rear filters, the majority of modern PL lenses should be compatible, but there will always be exceptions. KipperTie includes a smart fitment tool that makes double-checking simple.
A support bracket engineered to match the FX3 and FX30 body size is also included, allowing the PL mount to be tied rigidly to the camera and it comes with 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 fittings.
The PL mounting ring may optionally be augmented with a pair of grip tabs, each of which can be attached in a choice of positions to suit the user.
It is important to note that the Revolva E-PL requires at least one cartridge to function, but as I mentioned earlier, it is compatible with all pre-existing cartridges.
Price & Availability
The Revolva E-PL retails for £800.00, but what you have to remember is that this doesn’t include the price of the filter cartridges.
The filter cartridges cost between £400.00 – £450.00 each.
This does make it pretty expensive compared to some of the other solutions on the market.

ADAPTA E–PL
The ADAPTA E-PL is essentially the same as the Revolva E-PL except that it doesn’t have the ability to use filter cartridges. This is simply a straight mechanical E-PL mount adapter.
Just like the Revolva E-PL it comes with a support bracket that was engineered to match the FX3 and FX30 body size. This allows the PL mount to be tied rigidly to the camera and it comes with 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 fittings.

The ADAPTA E-PL retails for £500.00. Lead time for new orders is 6 weeks. The estimated completion will be the 8th of May 2023.
