SmallRig has unveiled a new Advanced Compact V-Mount Battery Mounting System. It was designed to be a compact, lightweight, convenient, all-in-one mounting solution for anyone wanting to use V-mount batteries with smaller-sized cameras.
If you do need to add or power multiple accessories from a mirrorless hybrid or smaller-sized digital cinema camera that doesn’t natively use larger batteries. then a battery plate solution will allow you to do that. Third-party V-mount battery solutions have been around for a long time and some are better than others. It is often hard to make a product like this that is versatile enough that it will suit a variety of different users’ needs. What may work well for one person, won’t suit someone else.
The Advanced Compact V-Mount Battery Mounting System kit consists of a V-mount battery plate, an Arca-type quick-release plate, a V-mount plate, 15mm rods, and a chest pad.
There is also a more basic version available called the Compact V-Mount Battery Mounting System. This is exactly the same except it doesn’t come with the rods or chest pad.
It is made out of Aluminum Alloy, Stainless Steel, and EPDM. It weighs in at 486g / 1.07 lb.
The baseplate can be stretched to fit mirrorless / DSLR cameras of various sizes. This can be done without the need for tools. It also allows you to move the battery back far enough so you can still have good access to your camera’s screen.
It also has an adjustable 90-degree rotatable V-mount battery plate that features a locking hinge mechanism so that the battery can be positioned in a variety of positions depending on your requirements.
The baseplate features a built-in Arca-type plate. You can also mount it directly onto a DJI RS series gimbal via the Arca Swiss quick-release plate, although I am not sure I would want to run a mirrorless hybrid with a V-mount battery on a gimbal.
At the end of the 15mm rods, there is a chest pad you can attach.
The V-mount battery plate features 1/4″-20 threaded holes. What you can also do is attach an optional NP-F Battery Adapter Plate Professional Edition or Holder for Portable Power Banks if you don’t want to run a V-mount battery. This certainly adds to its versatility.
The load capacity of the SmallRig Advanced Compact V-Mount Battery Mounting System is 5kg / 11.02 lb which allows you to run a lot of mirrorless hybrids, a decent-sized lens, and a V-mount battery.
What cameras will it work with?
According to SmallRig, the Advanced Compact V-Mount Battery Mounting System will work with mirrorless / DSLR cameras that are less than 111mm thick. These include:
- Sony Alpha 7R V / Alpha 7 IV / Alpha 7S III / Alpha 7C / FX3 / FX30
- Canon EOS R5 C / R5 / R6 / R6 Mark II / R7 / R10 / R / RP
- Panasonic LUMIX S1H / S1R / S1 / S5 / S5 II / GH6 / GH5
