Irix has announced a new version of its prime 150mm T3.0 Cine Lense. The original version was released back in 2019. The original 150mm T3 was popular due to its low price and good optical performance.
Due to customer feedback, Irix developed a second version of the 150mm T3.0 lens., with the designation TELE.
So what’s different?
The optical and mechanical construction of the new lens is similar to the original, but there are some differences:
- The focus range has been modified and it now starts from 0.67m. This allows for much greater precision in the movement of the focus ring in the range from 2 meters to infinity. The range of the focus throw remains unchanged at 270 degrees.
- The aperture range of the lens has also been changed – its maximum value in the TELE version is 22 now.
The optical construction of the lens consists of 12 optical elements, internal focusing, and an 11-bladed aperture. Irix claims that this leads to the highest possible image quality, bokeh, performance, and low focus breathing.
The lens is compatible with matte boxes that have a 95mm diameter. It has a front 86mm filter thread and 0.8 pitch gears.
The 150mm T3 comes with lens foot that includes a standard ¼” mount thread. The front of the lens is also equipped with Magnetic Mount System for easy installation of additional accessories and Irix MMS filters or an optional lens hood.
The lens is made of magnesium alloy and it features a durable metal construction. It weighs 1105g (Canon EF version), which makes it suitable to use with small to mid-sized digital cinema cameras and SLR/mirrorless cameras.
The Irix Cine 150mm T3.0 TELE lens is available in the following mounts: Canon EF, Canon RF, Sony E, Nikon Z, Olympus MFT/ Panasonic MFT, and Arri PL-mount.
