At an event in Shenzen China, Viltrox has given a sneak peek of its upcoming 1.33x full-frame anamorphic lenses. There is very little information currently available.
The lenses look reasonably big for a 1.33x anamorphic and not everyone is going to be a fan of the white housings. 1.33x probably makes sense for a budget lens manufacturer, because the lenses can be used on a wide array of cameras, including cameras with 16:9 sensors.
Currently, only a 35mm, 50mm, and 75mm have been shown. These lenses were native PL mount, but I assume they may also be available in other mounts.
I don’t currently have any information about when the lenses will be officially announced or how much they will cost.
We are continuing to see a lot of affordable anamorphic options hitting the market. While some are better than others, there are no shortcuts when it comes to optics. In most cases, you will pay for what you get. The biggest issue with most budget optics is the lack of consistency when it comes to optical performance and build quality. After-sales service can also be non-existent if you run into an issue.
