Techart has launched its 2nd Generation of Leica M to Sony E Autofocus Adapter for Manual Lenses (LM-EA9). The new Leica M to Sony E autofocus adapter features a more powerful motor, a sleeker design, and claimed better autofocus performance.
Essentially, the Techart LM-EA9 is a motor-driven adapter that gives manual focus lenses autofocus capabilities. The adapter replaces the focusing mechanism of the lens and through communicating with the Sony cameras, the extendable bayonet will move back and forth to achieve focus.
Although the adapter has a Leica M mount with a bayonet, lenses with other mounts can also be converted. You can do this by stacking an additional adapter to convert the mount into Leica M, and pair those up with the Techart adapter to utilize autofocus.
The adapter features a bulge-less design that creates no obstructions when using a camera and lens with tripods and other accessories.
The LM-EA9 is compatible with all of Sony’s latest camera models such as the:
- α6000
- α6100
- α6300
- α6500
- α6400
- α6600
- α7c
- α1
- α7
- α9
- α9 II
- α7 II
- α7 III
- α7 IV
- α7R
- α7R II
- α7R III
- α7R IV
- α7S
- α7S II
- α7S III
The adapter also utilizes four small and light servo motors that are claimed to offer much stronger support and faster autofocus. With the 1st generation adapter, there was a single big motor that was placed at the bottom of the adapter
Because of the short flange distance of the Leica M-mount, users can stack additional adapters to make a large array of manual lenses autofocus with the LM-EA9. Manual lenses in the follwing mounts could be used:
- Canon FD
- Leica R
- L39
- Nikon F
- Canon EF
- Pentax K
- C/Y
- Minolta MD
- M42O
- Olympus OM
- Exakta
- Konica AR
- Contarex CR
- QBM
- ARRI
- ALPA
- DKL
You can update the firmware of the adapter by connecting it via its USB dock on the adapter’s back cap. You then run the updated software on your computers. Both Mac and Windows OS are supported.
