The Atomos Sumo 19″ SE somehow managed to fly under the radar with no real official announcement, however, it was shown at NAB 2022. The Sumo 19″ SE HDR monitor, recorder, and switcher has replaced the Sumo 19″ which has now been discontinued.
So what is different?
The Sumo 19″ SE features an upgraded 19″ 1920 x 1080 SuperAtom IPS panel touchscreen display that uses an optically bonded quantum dot backlight. It has 1200 cd/m² brightness that Atomos claims is sharper and brighter than its predecessor. I am not sure why Atomos states that it is brighter when it has the same brightness as the original.
Just like its predecessor, it maintains the same 4K recording, monitoring, and switching capabilities. The Sumo 19″ SE gains four 12G-SDI inputs ( the original Sumo 19″ only has one 12G-SDI and three 3G-SDI inputs). It also has one HDMI 2.0 input that can receive video signals up to 4K60 and support live quad-channel switching. Five-channel recording captures the input feeds as well as the live switching to create one output video for efficient viewing. Genlock and LTC timecode are also supported by the HDMI 2.0 and quad-SDI connections.
