Every once in a while, a new product makes me say, “Wow, I need that!” Okay, maybe this happens a bit too much, but these Falcam F22 quick-release mounts look so handy and are not very expensive.
The key here is the mounting system is heavily utilized with all the components. It’s like a Lego set for camera rigs. I have to hand it to Caleb Pike, as he is one the most creative rig builders I know, so it’s no surprise he found the Falcam F22 system.
You have several pieces of kit available, all with the quick-release system. The goal here is not to have to unscrew components to mount them. Instead, use the secure quick-release mounts.
They have several 1/4 20″ versions to get the QR on a rig or cage. After it’s mounted, you are off and running. The mount uses a single pin that locks into one of four available on all corners of the plates. This way, you can mount it in any direction without worrying about the plate’s location on the device. This also gives you the freedom to use the device in different configurations without changing the position of the plates. Pretty cool indeed.
Lots of Options
As you can see, the Falcom F22 system comes in various configurations, including cages, suction cups, and handles. Some mounts have an ARRI-style mounting system with dual pins to prevent twisting. Unfortunately, they use 1/4 20 types with the anti-twist pins, so they are not compatible with true ARRI mounts. We are seeing more of the 1/4 20″ version of this, and I think it’s a good thing, but until it becomes a standard, it will be a bit frustrating.
Pricing
They are also very affordable. For example, the Articulating Arm retails for $69.95, and the Field Monitor Mount Holder is $59.95. I want to pick up a few and try them out as they look very handy. My accessory box is pretty full already, but I think I have room for a few more. Thanks, Caleb! 😀
