SmallHD has announced its new Cine 18 4K High-Bright Monitor. This is being touted as a lightweight, rugged, daylight-viewable production monitor.
The Cine 18 was designed to fill the gap between the Cine 13 and Cine 24 in the SmallHD 4K monitor line-up. Essentially it is a replacement for the 1703 P3X HD Monitor, but with significant upgrades in sharpness, resolution, and form-factor.
I previously reviewed the Cine 13 which is essentially just a smaller-sized version of the Cine 18. You can see that review here.
The Cine 18 features a lightweight aluminum-unibody chassis housing and an 18” edge-lit LCD screen with 4K resolution (3840 x 2160), 10-bit (8+2 FRC) color depth, 100% Rec. 709 coverage, 1100nits brightness, 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 240 PPI, and a 178º viewing angle.
Cine 18 has physical dimensions of 18.4 x 12.7 x 2.5″ (WxHxD) and weighs 12 lbs / 5.44 kg. Just like the other Cine monitors in the range, it comes with 4x 12G/6G/3G/HD-SDI inputs and outputs, as well as hot-swappable power inputs, multiple accessory power points, 4x removable cheese mounting sticks, and a removable bottom cheese mounting rail for added versatility.
The PageOS software toolset offers 4K HDR waveform and scopes, Color Pipe HDR color rendering, a Monitor Calibration Wizard, and more.

Competition
Competition primarily comes in the form of the Atomos NEON 17″ 4K HDR Monitor/Recorder which retails for
As far as I am aware, there isn’t another 18″ 4K UHD monitor that has the same feature set as the Cine 13. Atomos has the NEON 17″ 4K HDR Monitor/Recorder ($3,499 USD), but that is an HD-only display, to get 4K UHD you need to buy the 24″ model which retails for $6,499.00 USD.
Flanders Scientific doesn’t make any smaller sized 4K UHD monitors. The smallest size they have available is the upcoming 31″ XM312U.
