Sony has announced a new lineup of BRAVIA XR televisions at CES 2022. This includes 8K and 4K Mini LED models and what is being claimed to be the world’s first QD-OLED panel. There are also new LED and OLED models that come in sizes up to 85″.
All of Sony’s BRAVIA XR televisions feature a new Cognitive Processor XR. Conventional AI can only detect and analyze picture elements like color, contrast, and clarity individually. This means that the picture element is enhanced to only a certain level. But the way we perceive the world is based on all kinds of information coming from our eyes and ears to our brain. Working in the same way, Cognitive Processor XR™ cross-analyzes hundreds of thousands of elements at once. One of these elements is the focal point, which can detect where humans tend to focus the most. By cross-analyzing each picture element including the focal point, it integrates and adjusts each part to give the picture the most depth and reality.
Other features include BRAVIA CAM, Sony’s picture and sound optimizing technology. Detecting the distance between you and your TV, BRAVIA CAM adjusts TV brightness so you’ll always enjoy perfect picture quality, no matter where you are in the room. A light and color sensor in the TV optimizes pictures to light conditions for the best possible viewing experience.
There is also integrated Google TV and streaming services such as Netflix. There is also support and features for the PlayStation 5.
MASTER Series OLEDs
There are three MASTER Series OLEDs in the BRAVIA XR lineup, the A95K, A90K, and the A80K. The A95K looks to be the stand out of the three as it features a color-boosting QD-OLED panel. Sony claims that this boosts color brightness by up to 200% when compared to traditional televisions.
8K & 4K Mini LED models
Sony’s new 8K and 4K Mini LED models are the and X95K, and there is also the X90K premium 4K LED. The Z9K and X95K are Sony’s first Mini LED offerings. Both Mini OLEDs feature an XR Backlight Master Drive, that is claimed to provide precise control over the panel’s full-array local dimming (FALD) backlight. This is said to provide unrivaled contrast levels and picture quality.
