Voigtlander has announced new 35mm F2 lenses that are all available in Sony E-mount and Leica M mount. The two new lenses are the Voigtlander Apo-Lanthar 35mm F2 Aspherical VM and Voigtlander Ultron Vintage Line 35mm F2 Aspherical Type II VM.
A lot of these Voigtlander lenses are actually great for video use. It is relatively easy to get a Leica M adapter for most manufacturers’ mounts.
Voigtlander Apo-Lanthar 35mm F2 Aspherical VM
Cosina claims that the Apo-Lanthar 35mm F2 Aspherical VM is the highest performance lens in Voigtlander history. The lens features an apochromatic design, which is claimed to reduce chromatic aberration levels to virtually zero.
The lens has been optimized for use with full-frame Leica M mount cameras. The minimum shooting distance of the lens is 0.5m.
The optical design of the lens consists of 11 elements in 9 groups. The lens also has a 12 blade aperture which Voigtlander claims provide a circular bokeh not only at F2, but also at F2.8, F5.6, and F16.
The Apo-Lanthar 35mm F2 Aspherical VM, like all Voigtlander lenses, is manual focus only.
The Voigtlander Apo-Lanthar 35mm F2 Aspherical VM will retail for ¥120,000 (around $1,340 USD) and it will be available in March. The lens is available in Leica M or Sony E mounts.
