The ZITAY CFast To 2.5 Sata3.0 4T SSD Adapter & V Mount Plate allows you to record externally to a 4TB 2.5″ SSD (not included) from select cameras.
This includes cameras such as the Blackmagic URSA Mini 4K, URSA Mini 4.6K, and URSA Mini 4.6K G2. I imagine that it could also be used with any other camera that uses CFast 2.0 cards, such as the Canon C200, Canon C300 Mark II, Canon XC10, Canon 1DX Mark II, or even an ARRI Amira.
This product was previously released a while ago, but ZITAY has now updated it to make it more stable and reliable.
The adapter comes in the form of a V Mount plate that you sandwich between your camera and a V Lock battery.
A 2.5″ SSD can be inserted into the V Mount plate. You then insert the two dummy CFast 2.0 cards into the camera you are using.
Even if you are not using the dummy cards and are recording internally to your camera, there is no need to remove the adapter. ZITAY has designed the adapter so you can place the cards back inside the V Mount plate when you aren’t using them.
Why would you want to use something like this?
That is a good question. CFast 2.0 cards are already fast and come in fairly large capacities, so why would you want to go to the trouble of recording to an external SSD? In one word, cost. A 1TB CFast 2.0 card will set you back at least $800 USD. Whereas a 4TB Samsung Pro 860 series drive costs $999.99 USD.
The other benefit apart from the cost is increased recording times and the ability to record internally and then if you happen to run out of cards you could switch to the SSD recording.
