Samsung 980 PRO PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD with write speeds of up to 5,000MB/s

Samsung has announced new 980 PRO PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs with write speeds of up to 5,000MB/s and read speed of up to 7,000MB/s.

This is a major bump in performance over the companies existing range of 970 series NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSDs. In fact, it is double the speed of the Samsung 970 PRO NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 SSDs.

Despite the 980 PRO PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD having 2x the data transfer rate of PCIe 3.0, it still maintains backward compatibility with PCIe 3.0.

The only real catch with the new 980 series is that they are only currently available in capacities of up to 1TB and you will need a computer with a compatible motherboard that is capable of utilizing PCIe 4.0.

The 1TB 980 PRO PCI3 4.0 x4 M.2 Internal SSD retails for $229.99 USD.
