The Sennheiser MKE 200 microphone looks to be an alternative to larger on-camera microphones. It maintains a very small footprint because it doesn’t feature a suspension system.
The MKE 200 includes two locking 3.5mm audio cables. One features a standard TRS plug for compatibility with cameras and DSLRs, while the other utilizes a TRRS plug ¥that allows you to use it with a smartphone or tablet. Sennheiser includes a furry windshield that can be slipped over the MKE 200 if you are using it outdoors in windy conditions.
Small & Compact
The microphone is 2.7″ (6.8 cm) long and it weighs 1.7 oz (48.2 g). As it features an integrated cold shoe mount you can attach it directly to a lot of cameras without needing any other accessories or mounting equipment.
Super-Cardioid Polar Pickup Pattern
Unlike most built-in camera and smartphone microphones that are omnidirectional, the MKE 200 uses a super-cardioid polar pattern to capture sources in front of the mic. This allows it to attenuate side- and rear-entry sound. According to Sennheiser, low-noise electronics and a sensitive condenser element allow it to deliver more detailed audio than the mics typically found in cameras, mobile devices, and portable recorders.
Easy To Use & Set-up
The MKE 200’s 3.5mm output port can be connected to a range of devices using the two supplied coiled cables. Each cable features a locking 3.5mm TRS plug on one end that prevents accidental disconnection at the mic.
One cable is terminated with a standard 3.5mm TRS plug for use with select hybrid mirrorless cameras, DSLRs, or portable audio recorders. The other cable has a 3.5mm TRRS plug for direct connection to mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.
No Batteries Needed
The MKE 200 operates on plug-in power (2 to 10V), so you don’t need to use any batteries to operate it. This allows you to attach the MKE 200 to your camera or mobile device and without having to check, swap, or charge batteries.
Internal Suspension Mount
The MKE 200 incorporates an internal suspension mount that is claimed to reject the transfer of vibrations such as camera/smartphone handling noise.
Built-In Wind Protection
Sennheiser has designed the MKE 200 with built-in wind protection, however, for obtaining the best results in outdoor environments, it is recommended that you use the included furry windshield.
