The Sound Devices 833 is an update to the company’s popular 633 mixer and makes improvements in a number of areas.
Part of the Scorpio family
The 833 shares processing technology with Sound Devices’ flagship Scorpio mixer and features the company’s latest, cleanest microphone preamps for a claimed 140dB of dynamic range.
There are a total of eight inputs: six mic preamps and two line inputs. Added to that are four mix tracks for a total of 12 tracks, with built-in auto mixing. It’s a lot more compact than the Scorpio and is designed for use on the shoulder rather than on a sound cart.
Storage, power and other features
There’s a 256GB internal SSD to store recordings, and if redundancy is your thing (and who could blame you) there are also two SD card slots.
The 833 runs on external DC or Sony L-mount style batteries, and conveniently there’s now a built-in battery charger so you don’t have to remove your batteries before charging them up.
There’s also integrated Bluetooth for wireless remote control.
