Techart has unveiled their Sony E to Nikon Z Autofocus Adapter (TZE-01). The new TZE-01 is claimed to be the world’s first autofocus adapter that allows autofocus functionality when using Sony E-mount lenses on Nikon Z6 and Z7 cameras.
I’m not sure how many people would actually be putting Sony E mount lenses onto a Nikon Z6 or Nikon Z7, but at least you now have the option.

Design
The flange distance of Nikon Z-mount is only 2mm shorter than Sony E-mount. According to Techart, this made it extremely difficult to design the adapter. Techart includes connectors of both sides and a PCB board with a chip to “translate” the protocol of the lens and the camera.
This adapter is developed through reverse engineering. In other words, despite Techart’s 100% effort in making this adapter compatible with all the Sony E-mount lenses and Nikon Z-cameras, the adapter is still NOT perfect. What functions will work?
The Techart adapter enables both Auto Focus & Auto Aperture functions of Sony E mount lenses to be used on Nikon Z6 and Z7. AF-S, AF-C & MF mode are all supported in both still & video shooting. The Face & Eye Detection of Z-mount cameras can also be used, however, this only works in the stills mode.
Other functions like lens vibration reduction and timelapse can also be used. Phase- detect Autofocus has been adopted, that Techart claims guarantees that both the AF accuracy and speed are very close to (if not better) than native Z-mount lenses. The company is quick to point out that functionality may vary depending on what E-mount lenses are used.
What lenses will it work with?
The Techart adapter currently supports most of the Sony, Sigma, Tamron & Zeiss AF lenses with Sony E mounts. This includes popular lenses such as the Tamron 28-75mm, Batis 25mm f/2, Sony 24mm f/1.4 GM and Sigma 35mm f/1.4. Techart is currently working to support more lenses.
Samyang / Rokinon lenses are currently NOT supported. This may change in a future firmware update.
Firmware Updatable
The new Techart TZE-01 adapter comes with a lens dock for firmware upgrades. This is done by connecting the adapter to a PC or Mac via a Micro USB cable (not included). The firmware can also be updated via the Techart App.
