With the popularity of the FOCUS 5″ version, SmallHD now adds to the line up with a 7″ version FOCUS 7. The FOCUS 7 is also a touchscreen monitor that is priced very competitively for independent filmmakers and small production teams.
Affordable is the key when compared to a 702 Bright at $1,368.72, the FOCUS 7 is approximately half the price at $699. With the lower price will also come some lost features, namely no SDI input and one HDMI input without an output.
The screen is a 1000nit daylight viewable IPS touch panel that is full HD 1920×1080. It can handle 4K signals up to 30p.
The FOCUS7 has two Sony L Series battery slots for extended use.
Real-time 3D LUTs, monitor profiles, and screen overlays can be loaded via a full-size SD card slot. Audio output is also available using the monitor’s stereo headphone jack. Unlike the FOCUS 5, the FOCUS 7 uses a full-size HDMI input
The FOCUS 5 was the first monitor to actually have a usable mount beyond just a ball head. The FOCUS 7 has a 7-inch SmallHD Tilt Arm that is sold separately and is available in the FOCUS 7 Gimbal Accessory Pack, the 7-inch Tilt Arm provides a simple and convenient way to mount the FOCUS 7 on-camera or on-gimbal.

I’ve said this before, a monitor is just a monitor but the software it has makes it a tool (of course, the quality of the display is important too). SmallHD OS3 is very good and gives the shooter a ton of tools to get the right exposure as well as focus. The FOCUS 7 is available now for $699 USD.
