Insta360 has announced a new firmware update that adds FlowState Stabilization to the ONE which will be available from March 23 for iOS.
As you can see in the video, the results do look pretty impressive.
Set and forget
A big feature of using a 360 camera is that you can set it and forget it as you have the ability to reframe later for a traditional 16:9 output or upload the 360 version for viewers to select for themselves where to look. Not having to worry about where you’re pointing the camera is great for active situations like following another skateboarder then you can concentrate on where you’re going rather than where you’re pointing the camera.
To make the process even easier, Insta360 has added the new Smart Track feature. Simply select your subject and the app will automatically track a subject, keeping it in the centre of the frame.
Pivot Points
Users now also have the ability to set Pivot Points to their footage. This lets you set key points of interest in the 360 field of view. Quite important for 360 capture as this would otherwise be done manually, to direct where the viewer will look. The app will then automatically transition between the pivot points.
Gimbal Killer?
Insta360 has published a video comparing the FlowState Stabilization to a mobile phone gimbal. The results do look good but you will sacrifice image quality compared to using one of the newer smartphones. The newer smartphone gimbals also have the ability to track objects. You will have to decide whether you need the 360 capture or not.
Insta360 ONE owners can get the update via the iOS app.
The Insta360 ONE retails for $299 USD.
