DJI has won a prestigious Emmy® Award for Technology and Engineering from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The company started by Frank Wang Tao in his Hong Kong University of Science and Technology dorm room 11 years ago will receive the Emmy for excellence in engineering creativity, specifically for creating “Low Latency Remote Controlled Airborne Video Platforms for Television.”
It is amazing to see just how far drone technology has come in such a small amount of time. It wasn’t that long ago that if you wanted to capture aerial footage it had to be done from a helicopter. Now everyone has access to affordable drones for capturing aerial perspectives.
However you may feel about DJI, there is no denying that they have made a substantial contribution to our industry and created a lot of products that have helped filmmakers get some very unique shots. If anything, innovation helps spawn competition, and competition is great for the end consumer because it not only pushes the boundries of technology, but it often results in more affordable products.
DJI products are not only being used by consumers, but also on the sets of Emmy Award-nominated television productions including: The Amazing Race, American Ninja Warrior, Better Call Saul, Game of Thrones, and many more.
Stuart Cram, Marketing Manager at DJI had this to say about the award, “Since the introduction of the Phantom quadcopter in 2013 and most recently with the Inspire 2, DJI’s drones have consistently been at the forefront of camera drone technology by creating safe, reliable, high-quality aerial imaging systems for creative professionals around the world. We are incredibly honored that the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has chosen to recognize the contribution DJI’s technology has made to the industry.”
DJI will receive there award at the 69th Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards that will take place in partnership with the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) Show on Sunday, April 8, 2018 in Las Vegas, NV.
