Micron Technology today announced that it is discontinuing its Lexar retail removable media storage business. The decision was made as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to focus on opportunities in higher value markets and channels.
The Lexar portfolio includes memory cards, USB flash drives, readers, and storage drives for retail and OEM customers.
Micron is exploring opportunities to sell all or part of the Lexar business.
The company will continue to provide support to existing customers through this transition period. Customers should contact their Lexar sales representative to discuss specific requirements.
Lifetime warranty
I personally use Lexar media and for the most part it’s been a positive experience. I did have an expensive Professional 2000x 128GB SD Card fail on me, but Lexar has a lifetime warranty on these cards and they replaced it very quickly. This type of service is valuable to me and I’m sad to see them go. As for honoring the warranty I doubt they will once the products are all gone – so be careful if you see them on clearance: just know the warranty will not be in place anymore.
Lexar brought a quality product at a competitive price. It’s a bummer to see the brand go. Are you in the market for an SD card brand? Let us know in the comments below…
