Ledgo LG-G200 RGB Light – NAB 2017

It looks like the next big thing to go mainstream in the world of lighting is going to be RGB LEDs. The Ledgo LG-G200 RGB light, also knowns as the ‘Magichue’ is a 250W dimmable softlight that’s temperature adjustable from 3200-5600K and also has RGB colour control.

The colour adjustments are carried out on the back of the unit in degrees and correspond to angles on a colour wheel. There’s no graphical display of this, so although the values are integer-based and repeatable, you’re going to have to write them down or remember them yourself.

You can create some striking effects by manipulating the colour output.

The housing is made from aluminium with reinforced nylon corners, and the company estimates that it will output around 20,000 lumens. We haven’t had a chance to test that claim ourselves yet.

Power and cooling

Space for dual V-lock batteries on the back of the fixture but you’re going to need them both to run without mains power.

The back of the unit is equipped with dual fans for cooling and there are dual V-lock battery plates if you want to take it on location. Because of the substantial 250W power draw you need two V-lock batteries attached to make it work when you’re not on the mains, and you can’t hotswap them. The light does come with an AC power pack that clips to the lighting stand.

DMX is built in and the light has a WiFi receiver for Ledgo’s router product that allows you to remotely control fixtures using the DMX protocol but without needing to run cable or plug into a control desk.

Price and availability

The fixture you see in the video above is a final production version and Ledgo hope to have it available to buy by summer, or autumn at the latest. Pricing has yet to be finalised but will probably be between $2,000 US and $2,500 US.
