The Panasonic GH5 isn’t quite here yet but the accessory manufacturers are already dusting off their CNC machines and ordering quantities of aluminium. Polish company 8Sinn (‘Perceive More’) are particularly quick out of the starting blocks and have a cage for the GH5 up for pre-order on their site.
The cage is formed from a single piece of aluminium for strength, and features an integrated cold shoe, useful for mounting a wide variety of accessories. Our friends at Photo Gear News have been sent a sample, and Rich Sibley takes a look in the video embedded below.
Fit and Form
The basic cage looks to fit the form of the GH5 tightly, leaving the grip easily, well, grippable and with a sprinkling of 1/4″ 20 threaded holes for monitors and cup holders. There’s a cutaway on the bottom of the cage so you can swap batteries easily, and as you’d expect all the other ports remain easily accessible. Even the articulated screen retains a full range of movement. It’s also compatible with the Panasonic HDMI port protector you get with the camera.
Price and Availability
The basic cage can be ordered from 8Sinn for $199 US. You can configure different packages to suit your needs, adding one of three top handle designs, Speedbooster support, 15mm rods and lens support. Opt for a full package and you can expect to spend $550 US.
Delivery is expected ‘in the second half of March,’ which should hopefully coincide with the release of the camera itself.
