Sony have today posted some new sample footage from the new a6500 4K compact system camera. The video on Sony’s Youtube channel was shot with the new 18-110mm f4 G lens and 70-200mm f2.8 G-Master lens.
We already know that the sensor inside the camera is the same as the one from the a6300, but with the addition of image stabilisation. Sadly this new video gives few clues about the a6500’s image quality, but is unlikely to any different to the a6300 and rolling shutter is also likely to be the same.
What I do find impressive is the quality that can be achieved with this tiny camera and some good glass. It may not be in the same league as high end cine cameras, but I would argue that the average viewer on Youtube really can’t tell the difference between footage like this and that from more expensive cams. For video journalists and documentary makers on a budget the a6500 seems to be shaping up well.
