At the IBC show in Amsterdam IO Industries were showing off their new 4K MAX high speed POV camera designed for slow motion replays of sports and other events. It has no on-board recording but instead outputs video via cable to a dedicated recorder. The rack mountable box takes SSD drives and in combination with the camera head can record 260 fps in 4K, 900 fps in 1080P and even higher in 720P. The lower resolutions are windowed from the full sensor width rather than downscaled.
The recorded footage can then be played out from the recorder via regular HD-SDI straight into a broadcaster’s system.
If the lens mount on the camera looks familiar that’s because its a variant of the one used by RED on their cameras. That means that a wide range of lenses can be fitted to the camera.
This is a high end solution and a package is expected to cost somewhere between $20 and $30K depending of configuration and media.
