Samyang are slowly but surely building their XEEN range into a complete set for shooters looking for cine primes at a slightly more budget-friendly price than has been possible from other more established brands. The XEEN family comprises 14mm T3.1, 24mm T1.5, 35mm T1.5, 50mm T1.5 and 85mm T1.5 lenses – and now Samyang have announced a 135mm focal length that slots into the range at the long end, albeit with a slightly slower T-stop than most of the other options.
The 135mm does however share the common 114mm-sized front; standard-pitch gear rings for iris and focus; declicked aperture control; and metric/imperial markings of the other XEEN lenses. It is also available in five (!) different mounts: PL, EF, F, E and Micro Four Thirds, and will also cover up to full frame-sized sensors.
We’ve covered the XEEN range before and have been pretty impressed by what we’ve seen – although the cine-ised housings mean they aren’t quite the mega bargain that their V-DSLR range stablemates are.
Samyang hope that the 135mm XEEN will be shipping from August for around €2,200. As soon as we’re able to test a sample we’ll let you know.
