In the wake of financial results that have disappointed the stock market, GoPro have announced job losses and a rationalisation of its camera range to just three models. The company is axing the Hero+ LCD, Hero+, and regular Hero cameras, which will leave the lineup much more streamlined.
From now on you’ll be able to buy the Hero 4 Black for $499.99 US, Hero 4 Silver at $399.99 US, and the Hero 4 Session for $199.99 US.
Arguably this makes a lot more sense to someone in the market for an action camera with three very clear tiers of functionality, and compatibility of accessories between the top two cameras.
GoPro’s next camera, the Hero 5, will be released next year, as well as the company’s first drone, the Karma. Entering another crowded, increasingly regulated, marketplace to turn the company’s fortunes around seems to be a bit of a long shot at this point but we can only wait and see.
