Skier are adding to their LiteCage line of reasonably priced camera cages with a prototype for Blackmagic’s Micro Cinema Camera range.
Announced at last year’s NAB, the Micro Cinema Camera offers a Super 16mm-Sized Image Sensor, active Micro Four Thirds lens mount, and a claimed 13 stops of dynamic range.
It’s also quite tiny: weighing around 300g, with dimensions of 8.26 x 6.96 x 6.53cm. It has four 1/4″ 20 mounting holes built in to the casing, but the Skier cage adds many more mounting options plus a port protector while leaving buttons, slots and doors easy to access.
It could also be possible in theory to add a monitor/recorder and operate the camera handheld using the Skier system – not sure that’s what Blackmagic were aiming for, but it’s always good to have options. Plus if the Taiwanese company have a camera to fit their product around, perhaps the production model won’t be far away. Perhaps?
The Skier cage for Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera is due for release in January 2016 priced at a very reasonable $149 US slightly less reasonable $299 US rejoice, they’ve confirmed it’s $149 after all. Here’s hoping the camera itself won’t be far behind.
