By technical editor Matt Allard:
I really like the size of my smallHD 502 monitor and have primarily been using it as a monitoring solution on gimbals and small cameras, but i have always found mounting it frustrating. Most small compact cameras feature a cold or hot shoe mounting point on the top of the camera body which is the most convenient place to attach a monitoring device. I have tried a variety of ball mount to cold/hot shoe adapters and they tend to always become loose and never seem easy to adjust.
SmallHD have designed a pan/tilt mount specifically for their 500 series monitors that features a clever new design. The mount features a friction based pan/tilt head that can be fully adjusted without having to undo a locking mechanism. As the mount attatches directly to the back of the 500 series monitors you won’t get that annoying problem of your monitor twisting and undoing off the thread when you re position it. In keeping with the compact design of the 500 series the mount folds away into the back of the monitor for easy storage.
SmallHD have definitely put a lot of thought into it and come up with a product that is sure to be a great solution for users of the 500 seres monitors. The mount will be perfect for gimbal operators who will be able to adjust the monitor with one hand instead of having to put the whole gimbal down, adjust the monitor and pick the gimbal back up. It will be interesting to see how well the mount holds up over a prolonged period of time. The new pan/tilt mount is available now for $59.99 US.
