I don’t usually do unboxing videos. I hate seeing myself on camera and worse still I hate editing myself. So what made me get off my ass and make one? A box arrived at my door the other day containing Sony’s shiny new PXW-FS5. With such an eagerly anticipated camera I decided it warranted breaking the habit:
I’m still not sure whether the demo camera I have is the final version, but Sony Hong Kong were nice enough to lend it to me. They haven’t set an official price or release date yet, but I’m guessing it will ship in early November.
I absolutely loved the FS5 from the moment I got it out of the box. It’s small, light and has a similar form factor to, dare I say it, a Canon C series camera. It’s a joy playing with a camera that is so compact. I can now travel without having to lug around a huge rig. The layout is exactly like every other Sony cam. I own a FS700 so it’s switch on ’n’ go!
I’ve only got the camera for couple of weeks but I’m planning a few shoots with the available time. Find me and bug me with any practical questions you might have and I’ll try my best to get the answers. That said, Dan Chung probably has more info than I do, so send him any really technical questions and leave me to be the one to damage the camera for you.
