Small HD have announced a larger counterpart to their popular 500-series of 5″ on-camera monitors. Called the 702-Bright it’s a 7″, 1920×1080 panel that’s being touted as easily viewable in ambient light and that runs the same underlying firmware as its smaller siblings.
The monitor’s body is made of aluminium and features some clever-looking integrated connectors that can accept either Canon LP-E6 or Sony NP-F style batteries. With a power draw of 10W apparently it’s possible to run it for nine hours on a pair of high capacity NP-Fs.

There are HDMI and SDI connectors (plus cross-conversion), support for LUTs, plus peaking and focus assist functions to help keep everything you’re shooting sharp.
There are lots of options out there at the moment for on-set monitoring; and without any recording facility the 702-Bright is purely a playback device. We’ll be investigating further at this year’s IBC trade show in Amsterdam.

The SmallHD 702-Bright is available to order from the SmallHD website now, with an indicated shipping date of mid-October and a price of $1499US.
