A few weeks ago we reported on a new E-mount option for the Veydra Mini Primes cine lenses. Their 25, 35, 50 and 85mm T2.2 lenses can all fit on E-mount cameras like the Sony FS7, FS700 and a7R II and fully cover the sensor area if in S35 mode. The lenses are currently available in M4/3 mount and have proved very popular with owners of the Panasonic GH4. The good news is that the mount is interchangeable and all that owners of the existing lenses need to do is buy an additional mount ring kit. The kits will cost $99 and all you need to exchange the mount is a screwdriver.
A C-mount version of the mount will also be available also for $99. This should be a good option for users of the Digital Bolex.
The latest news from Veydra is that the mounts are on course to ship in October. Factory assembled Sony E-mount Mini Primes will be available in early 2016, so the only way to get E-mount right now is to buy the M4/3 lens and change the mount yourself.
We recently spoke to Veydra creator Ryan Avery and he told us: “We recognized the popularity of other mirrorless camera mounts such as the Sony E for APS-C and C Mounts for Super16. Since the longer focal length Veydra Mini Primes, 25mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm design naturally led to APS-C/Super35 coverage and our knowledge of the Super35 sensor on the JVC GY-LS300 in M4/3 mount, we decided it would be a simple user changeable mechanical mount change to offer Sony E and C Mounts. The user adjustable sliding focus scale design of the Mini Primes prevents the need for shims or other complicated back focus adjustments; just loosen three screws on the focus scale and adjust the infinity mark to your cameras flange depth after the mount is changed.”
In addition to the new mounts there is also a new lens collar that fits around the Mini Prime and gives an additional mounting point. When properly secured to a rig or cage this should prevent any slight play in camera side of the lens mount. This can be caused by variations in camera manufacturers’ tolerances. The lens ring will cost $119.
The mounts will be available to order soon in the Veydra website.
