Newsshooter at NAB 2015 – OWC Viper drive and Thunderbolt 2 dock from Chuck Fadely on Vimeo.
Other World Computing, the venerable Mac specialist computer store (macsales.com,) was showing off their new Viper Pro Thunderbolt SSD drive and their Thunderbolt 2 Dock at NAB 2015.
The Viper Pro Thunderbolt SSD drive is one of the fastest drives available at 1350 megabytes per second – so fast it can max out a thunderbolt 2 bus, they say. For someone editing 4K video and above who need that kind of speed, the expected price around $3,000 USD for a 4TB drive or $4800 for a 8TB drive may be worth it. It will ship in June.
They also have a Thunderbolt 2 Dock, which gives a huge array of i/o ports, including firewire, from just one thunderbolt connection. It’s already shipping at $249 USD. The ports:
- 2 x Thunderbolt 2 (20 Gb/s)
- 5 x USB 3.0 (5 Gb/s)
- (3) USB 3.0
- (2) USB 3.0 high-power charging
- 1 x FireWire 800
- 1 x HDMI 1.4b
- 1 x Gigabit Ethernet
- 1 x 3.5mm Mono Audio Input
- 1 x 3.5mm Stereo Audio Output
Josh Sularski from OWC tells us about the products.
