NAB 2015: RED Weapon

RED were showing their new Weapon camera, the latest incarnation of the Epic. The new features in the camera are ProRes recording internally while simultaneously recording R3D RAW files. To record ProRes RED are scaling down from the full sensor to achieve a 2K image.. There will be multiple versions of the WEAPON camera, with Carbon Fiber having slightly higher ProRes specs over the Magnesium Body (up to 120fps for CF and 60fps for Magnesium). There is also built-in wireless connectivity, lower fan noise, and tethered ProRes streaming, where the ProRes is sent over a Ethernet connection.

The biggest news moving forward will be the new 8192 x 4320 sensor, which is a little wider than a standard full-frame 35mm sensor. A maximum frame rate of 75fps at 8K will be possible. RED are saying that the new 40.96mm x 21.6mm sensor will be available as a paid upgrade at the end of 2015.
