G-technology have today launched two new hard drives that will be of interest to those of use who spend a lot of time on the move. The new G-DRIVE ev ATC and G-DRIVE ev RaW with Rugged Bumper are designed for the rough and tumble of field work. Both are watertight and drop proof.
The G-Drive ev ATC is similar to the existing G-Drive ev that I use at the moment. The main difference is that it has a strong case around it that protects the drive inside from dust, water, drops up to 2m and it even floats.
Inside is a 1TB 7200rpm drive that offers speedy 136MB/s transfer rates. Two different interfaces are available on the case – Thunderbolt or USB 3.0. The drives themselves still have the same SATA port as other ev drives that allows you to dock the drives to G-technology’s own ev dock – great for easy downloading when returning to base.
As a sign of the confidence that G-technology has in the quality of their drives a three year limited warranty is offered.
Don’t despair if you already own the current ev and ev SSD drives – you will be able to buy the protective case separately and add it on to your existing ev.
Also launched is the G-DRIVE ev RaW with Rugged Bumper – this is a cheaper, lighter alternative. The difference seems to be in the case. It is drop proof to 1.5m but isn’t as resistant to the elements as the more expensive version. It still has the fast 136MB/s and it has a USB 3.0 connection. The drive itself is also 35% lighter than the original G-DRIVE ev. The G-DRIVE ev RaW with Rugged Bumper is available in 1TB and 500GB sizes.
The G-Drive ev ATC will be £179.95 for 1TB Thunderbolt drive or £139.95 for 1TB USB 3.0 drive.
The ev ATC with Thunderbolt case alone for your existing ev drives costs £99.95 and the ev ATC with USB 3.0 case costs £59.95
The G-DRIVE ev RaW will be £99.95 for 1TB drive and £79.95 for 500GB.
