Some beautiful footage from a beta Blackmagic Design URSA has been recently published on Vimeo. Captain Hook, who now works for the company, is perhaps best known for producing excellent LUTs for the BMPC 4K and BMCC. He has been lucky enough to try out the camera in New Zealand and shoot some personal footage and the results are impressive.
Much of the video is shot for slow motion at 60fps and then conformed to 24fps. The grade was done in DaVinci Resolve 11.
Interestingly Hook used a Schneider Hollywood Blackmagic 1/4 and Tiffen Soft FX 1 for some of the shots. I’ve been considering using diffusion filters more to take the ‘digital edge’ off images and it is good to see them in use here.
The video is best downloaded to see it in better quality although it is currently only a ProRes LT version. Hook hopes to upload a UHD Prores LT version later.
For more info about how it was shot and what lenses and filters were used check out the description on the video.
