Zeiss were at Broadcast Asia in Singapore last month. I spoke to Arato about the current choices available for Sony a7S owners. He talked me through the full-frame options which include the stunning Otus 55mm f1.4 prime and the high end cinema zooms like the upcoming 15-30mm T2.9.
The 15-30mm on show was one of only two in the world right now. The incredible optic is super sharp and has virtually no breathing. It is a welcome addition to the existing 28-80mm and 70-200mm T2.9 cine lenses. At the end of the interview I also ask about the servo zoom add-on for the CZ zooms which was shown in prototype at NAB. Arato told me that it may be available around Christmas time.
He also mentions that the current Touit lenses designed for APS-C sensors can also be used in the a7S crop mode – something I tested in the low light footage I shot in Singapore.
Arato also hinted at new Otus lenses at the Photokina show later this year, and expects the 15-30mm cine lens to be available to buy around the time of the IBC trade show in the fall.
